Data Privacy and GDPR

SpeedVitals RUM has been built with a privacy-first approach. For the same reason, we were unable to include a few things such as Cookies to track users. Hence, it is not possible for us to find the unique visitors on your website. If a user visits 5 pages on your website, we treat it as one session with 5 page visits. But if the same user comes back to your website after 3 hours, we are unable to identify if it is the same user or not.

SpeedVitals uses real user traffic to collect data. No personally identifying information (PII), including names, email addresses, or other metrics that could be used to identify a user, is gathered by SpeedVitals. When request is sent to SpeedVitals server, we do get the IP Address of the visitor and we use the IP to determine user's City, State, and Country and then we obscure the last part of the IP before saving it.

We also save the User-agent which is used to identify the browser and device. However, none of the information we save can be used to uniquely identify any user.

The tools we use to detect location from IP and Browser/Device from User-agent are run locally on our servers and no data is sent to any 3rd-party service provider.

What data we collect:

  • Anonymized IP Address: Anonymized IP address collection involves masking part of a user's IP address to protect privacy. This process makes it impossible to trace the user back to an individual while still allowing data collection for analytics, performance monitoring, or security. It helps comply with privacy laws like GDPR and reduces the risk of misuse of personal data.
  • LocalStorage for storing data: LocalStorage is a browser feature that saves data on your device as key-value pairs. It keeps data even after closing the browser, offers more space than cookies, and is easy to use. We use it to save the user's session ID so that multiple page visits in a short span can be clubbed into a single session.

What we do not collect:

  • Cookies: SpeedVitals does not store small pieces of data (cookies) on your device to track your activity, preferences, or session information. This ensures greater privacy as no tracking data is saved between visits.

Data Storage

You do not have to be concerned about your data being moved outside of the Schengen-EU because it is hosted in Netherlands.
